The short explanation of this alert was:

The Massachusetts state legislature will soon be voting on whether or not to bring the state back into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a market-based plan to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. Eight states have signed onto the RGGI and the Global Warming Bill (S2516) would bring Massachusetts into the regional plan to cut global warming pollution. Last month we asked you to send a letter in support of the bill, but we still need your help to ensure the bill passes. Call your senator today!

Be sure to identify yourself as a constituent, ask your senator to vote for S. 2516 and thank them for their time. Click here to look up your senator’s phone number.

Suggested Talking Points:

  • Hello, my name is _______, and I’m calling from [city, state].
  • I am calling to urge Senator ________ to vote for S. 2516 to bring Massachusetts into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
  • Global warming is here and happening today. We must act now to reduce our heat-trapping gas emissions.
  • This exciting regional effort will not only reduce global warming emissions in the region but will also lay the groundwork for other states, regions, and the nation to take action on global warming.
  • The market-based structure of RGGI offers a flexible and cost-effective way to reduce global warming pollution. Direct investments in energy efficiency and clean energy will benefit consumers by minimizing any price impacts of the program.
  • Thank you for your time.

If you are not able to call until after the office closes, you can still leave a message on voicemail.
