The short explanation of this alert was:
Thanks to your emails, calls, and letters into Congress we’ve made major progress building support for the inclusion of a strong renewable energy standard and stronger fuel economy standards in the Energy Bill. Now, the House is poised to vote on this critical legislation before the end of this week.
Unfortunately, we’re not the only ones who’ve been bending our representative’s ears. Automakers and utilities have pulled out all the stops to try to stop us from making genuine improvements to fuel economy and renewable energy—even though UCS analyses clearly shows these standards will save consumers money, create American jobs, decrease global warming pollution, and are technologically feasible.
The automakers are pushing feeble substitutes to the 35 miles per gallon standards set by the Senate while the utilities are trying to keep the renewable energy standard out of the House bill completely—just as they did with the Senate bill. Please urge your representative to listen to constituents’ needs—not to corporate interests. We want fuel efficiency and renewable energy amendments that are good for consumers and the climate added to the Energy Bill today!
