Bipartisan Call for New Nuclear Policy and No New Nuclear Weapons
U.S. nuclear weapons policies are outdated, dangerous, and misguided. The United States still maintains thousands of nuclear weapons on high alert, ready to fight a nuclear war. The Bush administration is planning to replace the entire U.S. arsenal with a new generation of nuclear weapons. These policies do not reflect the threats the United States faces.
The Union of Concerned Scientists is calling for a fundamental re-examination of the role of these weapons and for bold action that will lead to a world free of nuclear weapons.
Join our efforts today by urging your senators to co-sponsor the Nuclear Policy and Posture Review Act of 2007. Introduced by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Robert Casey (D-PA), Russ Feingold (D-WI), and Ted Kennedy (D-MA), the bill would prohibit funding for new nuclear weapons until a comprehensive nuclear policy and posture review are completed by the next presidential administration.
