During the debate over the energy bill in late June, the U.S. Senate passed an extraordinary resolution on global warming stating: "Congress should enact a comprehensive and effective national program of mandatory, market-based limits and incentives on emissions of greenhouse gases..."
This strong commitment to mandatory federal action comes at a time when the rest of the country and the world are already moving forward by taking serious steps to reduce global warming pollution. In fact, recent actions by U.S. states, global business leaders, and the international scientific community reveal that our national leaders are in good company when it comes to addressing global warming.
With this strong resolution in hand, the time for action is now. The Senate has an extraordinary opportunity to build upon this momentum and pass legislation that places mandatory limits on global warming pollution. Please contact your senators and urge them to take leadership on this critical issue. |
